Alberto Raposo

Alberto is Associate Professor of the Department of Informatics at PUC-Rio. His research at SERG centers around end user development and collaborative systems. He got his PhD in Computer Science from Unicamp in 2000. (external homepage »)

Carla Leitão

Carla Faria Leitão is Adjuct Lecturer at the Department of Psychology at PUC-Rio. She got her PhD in Clinical Psychology from PUC-Rio in 2003 and has been drawn to Informatics and Human-Computer Interaction by the subjective aspects of computer artifacts exposed and explored by Semiotic Engineering. She is one of the pioneering psychologists doing interdisciplinary HCI research in Brazil and also the co-author of two Semiotic Engineering books: Semiotic Engineering Methods for Scientific Research in HCI », published by Morgan & Claypool in 2009, and A Journey through Cultures », published by Springer in 2013. Her research interests include cultural aspects of HCI as well as the acquisition of computational thinking at school age and later. She has recently joined a research group at IBM Research Brazil to study semiotics and signification in Deep Learning models and applications. (external homepage »)

Clarisse de Souza

Clarisse is Full Professor of the Department of Informatics at PUC-Rio. She is also the founder and leader of SERG. Her research centers around Semiotic theories of HCI, Semiotic Engineering research methods, end user development, self expression through programming and human-centered computing. She got her PhD in Computational Linguistics from PUC-Rio in 1988. In 2017 she took a sabbatical leave from PUC-Rio and started a collaborative  research group with IBM Research Brazil to study semiotics and signification in Deep Learning models and applications (external homepage »)

Luiz Marques

Luiz Marques Afonso received his bachelor's degree in Informatics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 1996, and the MSc degree in Informatics from PUC-Rio in 2008, under Renato Cerqueira's supervision. His PhD in PUC-Rio was co-supervised by Clarisse de Souza and Renato Cerqueira. His research centers on usability and communicability factors in API use and design. He is the co-author of Software Developers as Users », published by Springer in 2016. As for his technical career, Luiz is a software developer with many years of experience in programming, software design, and software security. He works for 3Elos, an IT company specialized in Information Security, where he is also a partner.

Juliana Ferreira

Juliana is a post-doctoral researcher at IBM Research Brazil and an associate researcher of the Department of Informatics at PUC-Rio. Her research at SERG centers around human-centered computing and the communicability of software models and modeling tools. She got her MSc degree from Unirio in 2009 and her PhD in Computer Science from PUC-Rio in 2015. She is the co-author of Software Developers as Users », published by Springer in 2016.

Renato Cerqueira

Renato is a lecturer on leave from the Department of Informatics at PUC-Rio. He is currently Senior Manager of Natural Resources Solutions at IBM Research Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. His research at SERG centers around human-centered computing, the communicability of programming languages and capture & access infrastructures for interpretive research. He got his PhD in Computer Science from PUC-Rio in 2000 and is the co-author of Software Developers as Users », published by Springer in 2016.  (external homepage »)

Luciana Salgado

Luciana is Adjuct Professor at the Computing Institute of Universidade Federal Fluminense and an associate researcher of the Department of Informatics at PUC-Rio. Her research at SERG centers around cultural aspects of HCI and self expression through programming. She got her PhD in Computer Science from PUC-Rio in 2011 and is the co-author of A Journey through Cultures », published by Springer in 2013.

Rafael Brandão

Rafael is an associate researcher of the Department of Informatics at PUC-Rio. He is currently a research staff member of the Natural Resources Analytics group at IBM Research Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. His research at SERG centers around human-centered computing, multimedia documentation and capture & access infrastructures for interpretive research. Simone Barbosa
