Carla Faria Leitão is Adjuct Lecturer at the Department of Psychology at PUC-Rio. She got her PhD in Clinical Psychology from PUC-Rio in 2003 and has been drawn to Informatics and Human-Computer Interaction by the subjective aspects of computer artifacts exposed and explored by Semiotic Engineering. She is one of the pioneering psychologists doing interdisciplinary HCI research in Brazil and also the co-author of two Semiotic Engineering books: Semiotic Engineering Methods for Scientific Research in HCI », published by Morgan & Claypool in 2009, and A Journey through Cultures », published by Springer in 2013. Her research interests include cultural aspects of HCI as well as the acquisition of computational thinking at school age and later. Clarisse is Full Professor of the Department of Informatics at PUC-Rio. She is also the founder and leader of SERG. Her research centers around Semiotic theories of HCI, Semiotic Engineering research methods, end user development, self expression through programming and human-centered computing. She got her PhD in Computational Linguistics from PUC-Rio in 1988. Luiz Marques Afonso received his bachelor's degree in Informatics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 1996, and the MSc degree in Informatics from PUC-Rio in 2008, under Renato Cerqueira's supervision. His PhD in PUC-Rio was co-supervised by Clarisse de Souza and Renato Cerqueira. His research centers on usability and communicability factors in API use and design. He is the co-author of Software Developers as Users », published by Springer in 2016. As for his technical career, Luiz is a software developer with many years of experience in programming, software design, and software security. He works for 3Elos, an IT company specialized in Information Security, where he is also a partner.
