SERG is a multidisciplinary research group working with Semiotics, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), End User Development (EUD) and Human-Centered Computing (HCC), among other topics. The group is affiliated to the Department of Informatics of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). It is the birthplace of Semiotic Engineering, a semiotic theory of HCI recently extended to support research in HCC.

The group was founded in 1996 by Clarisse Sieckenius de Souza, who is also the current leader of the group.
